Walking in Shetland

Muckle Roe
Muckle Roe

Shetland offers some of the finest walking in Europe. The combination of spectacular coastal scenery on both North Sea and Atlantic facing cliffs, quiet inland lochs, and gentle heathery hills is unsurpassed.

The walker has the rare opportunity to discover ancient historical sites, dating back to Neolithic times, observe a wonderful array of wildlife - flowers, birds and mammals.

Before setting off on your walking adventure, let Visit Shetland give you a helping hand. There is a wide selection of information available, including walking publications, guides and Ordanance Survey maps covering the length and breadth of the Shetland Islands.

Find inspiration for some beautiful walks in stunning coastal scenery from a leaflet Walking_in_Shetland (990kB) or on WalkShetland.com official web page.

Statutory Access Rights and the Scottish Access Code are now in effect. They came into effect 9 February 2005. To find out about the Scottish Outdoor Access Code please click here.
