  Films by Margaret Tait

Films by Margaret Tait introduced by Andrew Parkinson of the Pier Arts Centre, Orkney
Margaret Tait was internationally respected filmmaker born in Kirkwall in 1918. From 1950 to 1952 she studied film at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and produced several films in Italy. Returning to Scotland she established Ancona Films in Edinburgh's Rose Street. In the 1960's Tait moved back to Orkney where over the following decades she made a series of films inspired by Orcadian landscape and culture. She died in Kirkwall in 1999.
The project brings together new prints of a selection of key films including ‘Portrait of Ga’, (1952), a study of the artists mother, ‘Happy Bees’, (1955), a celebration of childhood and ‘Colour Poems’, (1974).
